Mosman Square takes shape

A mature olive tree donated from Fourth Village’s Hunter Valley estate is among 30 newly planted trees and 1,200 small shrubs and feature plants installed in the newly completed garden beds near the restaurant’s outdoor dining area as Mosman Square progressively reopens to the public.

The phased reopening follows the completion of most of the planned construction after significant progress was made last month in paving works. 

Finishing touches will include enhanced lighting to spotlight key elements of the redeveloped square and fairy lighting in mature trees, the reinstallation of the 18th century Italian Antico Fountain and artworks honouring the Indigenous heritage of Mosman near Spit Junction. 

At the rear of the Civic Centre, the installation of reinforced long-life, low-maintenance turf, new paving and tree planting in the newly reshaped seat steps mark the final stages of works on the Village Green. 

Preparation for a new playground with interactive play equipment including a tree house slide, balance beams and play platforms beneath the southern fig tree is also underway with lightweight and moveable furniture set to provide flexible seating arrangements and promote an inviting social atmosphere.

The works incorporate a range of environmental features including low-carbon concrete, a water-sensitive design and recycled materials. 

The redevelopment, which provides improved spaces for events, markets and outdoor dining, will reopen for the Saturday 5 August monthly market.
