From the Mayor - 24 April 2024

The final touches including landscaping around the half basketball court and community barbecue facilities are being added to the Allan Border Oval Pavilion precinct in readiness for the official opening on Saturday 11 May at 11am. I encourage residents to come from 10am onwards and have a good look around the beautiful state-of-the-art interior and exterior finishes which include solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system.

The building has taken much longer than expected but I promise you will not be disappointed, and I take this opportunity to thank our sporting groups and residents for their patience and understanding.

I am very proud to be part of the Council that has delivered this landmark building for both Mosman and our visitors. This is a wonderful community space as well as a fully accessible sporting pavilion and after the formalities, please stay for the community barbecue and the opportunity to meet fellow residents and well-known sporting personalities, including Allan Border and Ian Chappell. 

I will be delighted to welcome members of the Balnaves family at the official opening the inaugural Mosman Art Trail, a new open-air experiential 10-kilometre cultural walk on Tuesday 30 April. The trail will take walkers on a scenic journey through 10 locations in Mosman and is a collaboration between Mosman Council, Mosman Art Gallery and the Balnaves Foundation and is supported by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust. The Mosman Art Trail is visionary and timeless and is a wonderful legacy and fitting tribute to the memory of Neil Balnaves.

Now in its 32nd year, and gaining yearly in prestige and merit, the Mosman Youth Awards in Literature attracts entries from both primary and secondary school students across metropolitan Sydney. Proudly run by Mosman Library Service, both story and poetry works will be accepted until 31 May. 

In closing, you will be reading my words in the shadow of Anzac Day. As people across Australia commemorate the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli – Lest We Forget.
